Physiotherapy FAQs

Physiotherapy

How can physiotherapy help me?

Our physiotherapists will aim to reduce your pain and help get you active again as fast as possible. We will diagnose your injury and identify the cause of your pain and then provide an individualized treatment plan that includes manual therapy techniques, strengthening and corrective exercises. We will also take the time to explain and educate you about your injury and then implement strategies to help reduce this risk of reinjury and reduce your pain

How long does a physiotherapy treatment session last?

Your initial treatment is for about 45 minutes. The following treatments are 30 minutes in duration. Each treatment is one on one with our physiotherapist’s undivided attention and with no interruptions. Each treatment will be tailored to your specific rehabilitation needs.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

When you visit for the first time, your Physiotherapist will take a full case history. A physical examination of your problem will be performed and you might be asked to move certain parts of your body. During the examination and treatment, you may need to take off some of your clothing so the Physiotherapist can assess. (You are welcome to have a support person in the therapy room if it makes you more comfortable). Your Physiotherapist will also palpate specific areas of your body which indicate the areas of your body where you may have a loss of mobility and that may contribute to your problem. The Physiotherapist will discuss treatment options and explain your diagnosis. You may be referred for an X-Ray or scans. In addition to the commencement of your treatment, you may be given a series of simple exercises to assist in your treatment and help prevent further incidents.

Patients are encouraged to ask as many questions about their diagnosis and treatment as they need. If the Physiotherapist is unable to help you, they will do their best to refer you to the most appropriate Doctor, Specialist or Therapist.

How many treatments will I need?

Unfortunately, there is no black-and-white answer to this question. No two people are exactly the same. There are many factors that may influence the rate at which you recover from your injury, these may include the type and nature of the injury, the severity of the injury, your previous history, your goals, your age and current health and your participation in any rehabilitation. Your physiotherapist will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimation following a thorough assessment.
